I have a bbq this saturday, the saturday after that and the 17th. I have to eat a lot of meat. Who knows, I could use some help with eating all that meat.

On second thought, nah :D

I have to admit, I like lights on better than off.

Warrior of the Light
24th September 2011, 11:28
Dimmed for me or candles at best

swingdjted
25th September 2011, 16:15
Yeah, dimmed is nice too. Especially during the holiday when it's just some Christmas lights. The multiple colors make things a bit more interesting. Flickering fireplace light is even better yet.

There were a few back in college where I probably would have been much better off with the lights out, but most were definitely built for lights-on action.

that's a good one also, one of the things i can thank having a father who is a very good chef for.

there are few things - at least as far as food goes - that i wouldn't try putting in my mouth at least once to see how it is.

eloquently put, QFT.

personally, i like squid, a lot, i only ever had the rubbery ring sections at the extremely overpriced sushi-buffet "todai" but.... it was good even chewy as a piece of rubber and a bit tough i did like it.

it's really only the ones with shells that seem to taste like..... well... the vermin of the sea that they are.

and i really need to try proper squid, the delicate outer fleshes and not the rubbery inner rings like last time at that.

and octopus arms battered and fried... dear lod i love calamari!

Truth is, I like making jokes that other people don't dare to make for some reason. It's become a bit of a sport for me over the years. I allows me to make the better (or perhaps worse in this case :p) jokes.

obviously not the "lead by example" type of safety videos, it actually reminds me more of a trailer for a "saw" film.

I started at 6:00 this morning and went home at 20:00. I'm doing two different courses at the same time at work, so I have been studying from 13:00 to 20:00 with a break from 4 to 5. I don't mind studying but as the day progresses, it gets hard to stay focused.

We could also talk about sonique or itunes

Too-DAMN-Much

Too-DAMN-Much

you missed the point - sonique may as well not - it's a virtually unknown.

swingdjted
21st October 2011, 05:38
Yeah, that day instead of napping I just posted here, ate some food, did some laundry, and went to bed early. The rest of the week has also been very tiring, but not to the point where it has made work suffer. I really should stop my bitching and just be thankful that I'm capable of it all. I have a job where it is extremely taxing all throughout the school year (and worse yet it would be unethical for me to show it), but then I get a really nice month and a half off in the summer where I can make firewood by day and camp and have a beer by night, or not if I don't feel like it.

I still have yet to even try sonique or itunes. Winamp and VLC are just too easy and familiar I guess.

Too-DAMN-Much
21st October 2011, 05:41

no you didn't, my point was regardless of winamp or itunes existing or not sonique is a no-name discount stand-in at best and nearly literally unknown, not that winamp or itunes is much more well known.

in other words it was a worthless comparison since sonique wasn't eligible in the first place.

Too-DAMN-Much
28th October 2011, 11:43

Warrior of the Light
28th October 2011, 17:11
I could do a literal translation myself, but it just doesn't sound like it should. no rhyme, rhythm or anything.

It goes as follows:
Here rests and rots
The physical remains
Of afternoon meal and evening pot

Another one in English:

Some come here to sit and think.
I come here to shit and stink

(we have that in our bathroom)

Too-DAMN-Much

i'm bored enough and you're winning enough, let's try putting it through the language jumbler in reverse.

you'll have to let us know if it's readable though.

Hier rusten en rot De lichamelijke overblijfsel Van namiddagmaaltijd en avondpot

Warrior of the Light

They're readable and I'm actually surprised about some parts, but there are some errors that a computer doesn't need to make. Some words got switched that just follow the normal grammar rules.

Translators are fun. Try writing something (anything) in a translator, translate that to any random language, then re-translate it back to English (or whatever your first language is). Language is harder than it seems.

swingdjted
28th October 2011, 21:22
I've actually done that on purpose because sometimes it gives me a new way of saying something if it still makes sense.

Too-DAMN-Much
28th October 2011, 23:37
let's give google translate a workout and see how it does.

this is a book i started writing, i'm open to discussion about it and stuff but i'm not sure when or if it'll be continued cause i kinda wrote past my inspiration already.

in original English:

once upon a time long long ago before humanity as we knew it existed today, existed another form of humanity not too entirely dissimiliar from ourselves.

they were known to the inhabitants of the world as the prumans, they were quite like the humanity we know today.
except, they didn't exist on what we now call earth.
they existed instead far far away beyond our solar system, beyond our galaxy and depending on your interpretation, beyond our reality as well.
not that they weren't real, they just existed in a place so far away it wasn't even part of anything we could possibly perceive even if our capabilities to hear and see and venture were a 10,000 fold of what they are today.
in short, they existed outside of the universe as we know it.

their homeworld was a bright red and deep purplish green surfaced planet known as "galgax 74"
galgax 74 was a bit similiar to earth as well, as was it's twin which was known respectively as "galgax 75"
the two planets were identical in all but one oh so important way, the people that inhabited the two twin planets.
the prumans on galgax 74 and the premans on galgax 75.

now, with all the similarities so far, you're probably thinking that the prumans and premans were also very similar except for one or two small details, which they were, the most notable being the way they think.

the prumans of 74 were what's called a communal mind, or "hive mind" race, what this means is that a central brain somewhere does all of the thinking for the individuals as long as they remain close enough to it that it can still transmit it's thoughts to them.

the premans of 75 were quite different in this particular mental aspect, they could think for themselves but had no concept of how to consider decisions and weigh the different choices that existed to be made.

the prumans of 74 were not quite as inventive and prone to innovation as those of 75, for you see hive minded races of people cannot even grasp the concept of innovation, for if one of them has an idea, surely every single other of their race also had that exact idea at that exact moment, it was more of a delivery when the prumans had an idea than it was a thought as we consider thoughts to be defined.

the premans of 75 regularly brought new ideas that they had had to the prumans of 74, both because the two planets and two peoples relied on their cooperation to thrive, but also because the premans may have an idea that was so genius it redefines the laws of physics and never decide if it was anything special.

both races were ingeniously smart by our standards today and with the prumans ability to make good decisions and their uniformly skilled ranks of workers they were not only excellent laborers but also impeccable advisors, and the premans with the sheer volume of unique ideas and inability to decide if an idea was good, it would have certainly meant the death of both planets and both races by starvation or resource depletion if they did not work together.

and work they did, both planets full of millions of premans and prumans, worked nearly day and night for no other reason except that they enjoyed it and didn't know of anything else they would wish to do instead.

the prumans all slept for exactly the same amount of time, at the same time of day every night, for you see their mind needed rest too, it also worked laboriously nearly without tire because it had nothing better to do and, it quite enjoyed what it did.
every one hundred hours, their brain slept, as did they, for no brain told them what to think during the time it slept.

when they're brain slept instead of telling them thoughts, it told them pictures, the most wonderfull type of pictures anyone could ever hope to imagine, pictures that could move and yet stay in place, the pictures could tell a cohesive story from beginning to end, or the pictures could be of nothing but swirling colors and shapes that hardly retained a likeness of anything for long.

the premans loved to be there for the pruman brain's nightly story, not a single pruman had ever missed a single story yet, it was quite honestly against the law to miss a story told by the pruman brain, not that anyone would want to, the stories were the most wonderfull ever and the prumans couldn't think of anything that had ever compared to how happy and relaxed the pruman brain's nightly story made them as they rested with it.

the brain itself loved telling the prumans it's stories as well of course, it's a well known fact that anything capable of any type of thought, enjoys getting a good reaction from someone that a thought is shared with and it made the brain feel ever so loved and needed to know that the prumans considered it's stories so interesting.
they all sat quietly in one large circle with many rows around the brain when it told them a story, not a whisper or a cough or even a pin drop would ever be heard during the brain's nightly story, for this too, interrupting both the story and the brain's rest ended it early as it woke up and deprived the premans of sleep and the prumans of the joy of receiving the story.

even the youngest of the preman children knew instinctively that nothing was more important to them than the nightly story, they knew it the instant they were born and even a child joking with his friends that the latest story could have been better than it was or wasn't one they liked wasn't capable of truly believing the words even while they were still leaving his mouth.

in a way the premans and prumans of 74 and 75 both slept at the same time - when the brain did, but the premans did more than just rest for the coming day and listen.
while the brain told it's story they thought of all the ideas that would be ready to bring to the brain for consideration the next day.
however, they didn't take ideas from the brain, or even have it give them ideas, they listened to it's story as the pictures in their brains flowed by they had their time with their muse.

in short, the premans brainstormed with the pruman brain while it and they slept and rested for the new day, the pictures it showed them stimulated their thinking and acted as the catalyst for the inspiration for each new idea and concept that they would share with the premans the next day and the brain was rested by knowing how much the two peoples loved it and relied on it.

and so it was, in this way, the two races worked together for hundreds upon thousands of what we here on earth call years, they had literal countless billions of inventions that they had all as two harmonious peoples had worked on equally.

they did it all, they theorized and then they tested.
they refined and harvested and then they produced.
the two were the most productive cooperation ever seen to date.
they defined, they redefined and then redefined again, they learned about everything they possibly could and a few things that they possibly couldn't from the nights of rest and the days of work.

CHAPTER TWO

they mathed, they scienced, they physicized, they grew.
they grew in intellect and skill in every subject that existed, they produced the most masterfull crafts that anyone will ever know.
the most exquisite gems eyes could ever lay eyes upon, the purest metals a being could ever smelt.

but of course, as all races must, the two had to start small and work their way up the ladder so to speak.
the premans knew there was knowledge neither they nor the brain had, so they asked it for a way to acquire knowledge they did not possess already, it sat silent and didn't say a thing or show a picture to anyone for nearly 10 entire earth minutes, the premans worried they'd upset it with such a request that it must have deemed unfounded and horribly stupid enough it had decided to condemn them for it and never communicate with them again.

the prumans told the premans to not worry and that the brain was preparing.
the premans weren't sure if they should believe and wait, or run and fear it's wrath, they're lack of ability to make decisions well led them to stand in place dumbfounded unable to do anything but wait for whatever was in store.

they waited, frozen in the realisation that something nothing could prepare them for was about to happen, like a deer in the headlights of an earth vehicle, they froze, unable to do anything even run for their lives if they needed to.

nine full minutes had passed since their request had been made, they waited, still perpetually frozen in the inability to decide.

at exactly nine minutes, 30 seconds 4 milliseconds and a tenth of a nanosecond the brain finally had finally acted on their request of it.

CHAPTER THREE

the brain made a loud vibration in the air, that hit them as a shockwave of pure thought.
startled and now even more afraid it sought to destroy them they stood in place, living statues, prisoners of their own lack of decision making within a cage of their own fear they stood.

and then the brain did something noone had ever done before, it spoke, not into their minds, into their heads with something, something new and frightening that they didn't quite understand.
the brain had spoken the first word of audible speech ever.

but they didn't know what it meant, because they could not hear it, their bald heads devoid of noses or ears or mouths, they had felt it though, the brain's first word was spoken in such a loud and clear forcefull voice that they had felt the word as a shockwave bounce off of the skin of their heads before it dissipated.

the brain knew it had to explain itself before they misunderstood it and ran in fear.
the 10 pruman who spent their entire lives inside the brain's chamber as it's caretaker and chosen ones approached and gestured to their neighbor race that they, that the brain, meant no harm and that the premans should not be fearfull.

the prumans had always trusted the brain and the premans wholly before so they saw no reason to fear if the premans said there was no reason.

they probed for answers, how had the brain hit them with nothing so that they could feel it, but not find what they had been hit with or even understand that they had in as close of a way as people without ears can, had heard.

the brain stated that they should wait untill the night's story to find out and they agreed they would indeed wait for the story whether they found out or not.

CHAPTER FOUR

the premans went about their daily activities wondering what the brain's story would be at the end of the day, they had never anticipated one of it's stories as much as they did that day, so eager were they that they went to it's chamber at the end of the 99th hour instead of the 100th and asked the brain if it would let them wait untill the end of the hundredth hour.

it proclaimed that such was not nessecary, but that it did not mind an extra hour of rest this one time.
and so they sat around it in their large circle with the many rows exactly as they always did and waited, so eager were they that they enjoyed the suspense of waiting the extra hour even for their rest and it's story.

night fell and shattered in the distance as it had always done before it pooled at the core of the planet and boiled there till the 50th hour of the day, when it finally boiled so hard that it shot out of the hole it entered the planet's crust through and hung like a wet glob of glue and slowly spread over the twin planets.

they rested as did the brain and took in their story, it's story for the night

I don't believe you're uninspired, you just don't know how to continue.

Perhaps you should work on what you're actually going to tell. What are the general lines of the story? Who is important? why happens what and why should the reader care?

Start with sketching the skeleton, dot the i's later.

Right now you're just explaining two races far away. Nothing is really happening yet. Yes the brain spoke. Make that interesting to the reader, who right now doesn't care much about it.

Someone posted on another thread that once you post a certain word-count threshold, people stop reading out of laziness. I admit I did that on the long post above, and yet I probably post more average words per post than most.

I'm curious to know how often my long-winded posts get skipped because of this...

Well, it makes me a fast typist at least I guess.

I'll probably eventually read it though. Just because it's presumably an original piece of literature from a Winamp Forums member. Gimme a day or two and I'll report back.

I don't believe you're uninspired, you just don't know how to continue.

not quite how i meant that, you need the muse to come back each time you want to progress to a point.

with that one especially i had inspiration for the concept of the story but not a whole lot more and yeah i kinda wrote myself into a corner in one way - since i don't have anything beyond that or what might develop from it thought out - but not so much in other ways.

oh and half of that is in dutch ted, if it helps ;)

They don't make the Dunkel version anymore, and I really liked it! Some people won't like beer no matter how good it gets. They either taste or smell hops and are turned away instantly. Personally I like the taste of hops; I guess that's why I like the taste of beer. The beer on the left below is the Verum that is still made. The one on the right is the Dunkel (much darker and more heavy flavor) which I think has been discontinued. They now make a blue-labeled non-alcoholic version, but I doubt I'll try it.

These days I would far sooner fall asleep than appear or feel intoxicated. I've become quite a lightweight. It's very rare for me to have a second in one sitting, and very rare to even have a first during the school year (except during extended breaks). During the summer I have one pretty much every day before dinner though, and sometimes another single out at the camp in the later evening. Overall that adds up very quickly which is why I post the massive stacks of pictures in the other threads. If you ever gave me three on the same night I'd probably pass out.

I've only been drunk once - on our honeymoon. The bar - which had great cocktails for an even better price - was in walking (or crawling if needed to be) distance from the hotel.

According to ratebeer (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/warsteiner-premium-dunkel/5311/), warsteiner dunkel should be commonly available, but a search on warsteiner.de came back without result.

I'm back now.

Yes, white is a good one for the aformentioned reason. It's also a very safe, cool, inexpensive, and easy-to-repair color for vehicles (see posts 7, 9, and 10 of this thread (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=309639)). Both of our vehicles are white.

---. isn't anything in Morse Code, but -. is "n"

nope, it's closer to binary than morse code actually.

the answer is already in this thread, several times, as well.

---. off, off, off, on. = 4. etc etc.

Warrior of the Light
5th January 2012, 21:40
ah I remember the binary thread.. that was fun

swingdjted
7th January 2012, 23:22
Usually off is either 0, o, or O. Then on is usually | or 1.

k_rock923
8th January 2012, 00:37
I always just remember 'o' for off, or that the circle looks like an open circuit, so whatever is connected to it will be off.

swingdjted
8th January 2012, 00:42
Whereas the line is a closed circuit, and it looks like an unbroken line, making it looked closed, just like a power button.

Please pick a number between 1 and 48. I have 2 cases of beer, and each bottle is completely different from all the others. Over holiday break I went to a specialty store (http://vewinebeer.com/) (ranked #1 beer retailer in the world in 2010 by ratebeer.com) that stocks over 1,100 unique beers, where you can just get whatever you want in singles, sixers, or cases, all at good prices.

Anyway, give me a # between 1 and 48, and I'll drink that beer.

"Leviathan"
Imperial IPA style
(says 10% abv on the bottom, so if I start misspelling things...)
Web site says 120 IBUs. This might be my first triple-digit IBU beer.
Nice (but a bit scary) choice!

k_rock923
8th January 2012, 01:24
That sounds tasty, although I'm not really an IPA fan - they're usually too hoppy for my taste.

Tonight's drink for me is Johnnie Walker black - this also marks the first time I've ever purchased something that said 'Scotch' without being followed by the word 'tape'.

swingdjted
8th January 2012, 03:44
If you don't like that bitter and hoppy taste, then you probably would benefit from beers that have a low IBU rating, and indeed, stay away from IPAs, especially "imperial" IPAs. Higher-end pilsners, imperial stouts, strong ales, saisons, and barley wines tend to have high IBU ratings too.

Ales, pale ales, ambers, Scottish varities, Golden, Kolsch, some brown ales, hefe-weisens, dunkel-weisens, bocks, some porters, some stouts have lower IBU ratings and often have a lot of malt flavors that can keep the hops from being overwhelming.

Belgian-style beers aren't rated very bitter, but for some reason take a lot of getting used to as well.

This might help (40 or lower should be fine):

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/9030/chartibu.gif (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/100/chartibu.gif/)

I prefer single malt to blended Scotch (JW varieties are blended), but it's more a matter of personal taste than it is a matter of quality.

k_rock923
8th January 2012, 16:21
That doesn't make much sense, Ted! I love Russian Imperial Stouts!

While I am enjoying this bottle, I'm a little hesitant to pick up a Scotch habit - it would be way more expensive than my usual vice of a martini.

swingdjted
8th January 2012, 17:10
Russian Imperial Stouts aren't always hoppy (although some are), but they do have very high amounts of dark malts and/or barley, which can cover up the not-at-all-hidden hop tastes that one would find in an IPA. The high IBU is still noticeable, but it's matched with so many other intense tastes that there's a sense of balance that makes it more palatable. (I'm starting to sound like a beer snob. Sorry about that.)

Whereas the line is a closed circuit, and it looks like an unbroken line, making it looked closed, just like a power button.

well i wasn't really using binary, or morse code technically, hence the lack of standardization.
it works about the same as a 2 digit binary though, there's only ever two characters if you're writing like that so it doesn't really matter what either signify once you figure out how to decode the pattern.

oh and 13.

Minibrowser? never used it. Still wouldn't know why. I didn't use - or even install - the entire ML for until maybe two years ago. All my music was in the PL and it worked well for me.

swingdjted
17th January 2012, 23:53
I never used the MB either; was just using it as a time reference. I did use the ML a lot because of the fast indexed search in addition to being able to sort by different characteristics. It was an extremely powerful tool for people who had enormous libraries of music, especially for it's day. It was good for impressing people too. :) That was long before the XP plug-in or Vista or 7, meaning Winamp could find my music far faster than the operating system could.

every time i hear nirvana, it makes me wish i could strangle a disc jockey, the shitty stations we have here LOVE to pound nirvana into the ground as if it's still relevant.

it's over, the band was a fad, the man was a loser and a piece of shit - good riddance! - most of us just want to forget the music we've been forced to hear it for so long.

Warrior of the Light

swingdjted

yeah we did, ted, emphasis on did.

KUFO, was a rock/metal station, used to be almost worth listening to at one point, then they kinda sold the whole fucking thing off, packed up the studio and moved to the east coast and picked up a few random nobodies to DJ, good, fucking, riddance!

honestly, now that i think about it though.... kinda makes me wonder how often the station was just on autopilot with no one at the wheel, pretty much every single night they'd play for whom the bell tolls at the stroke of midnight, then again.... song does fit for midnight too.

couple others i'm that way about, fear factory, powerman 5000 (SOME, of their albums) they have enough that are just awesome in every way possible but... they have enough where the singer went off on this retarded wannabe sleazy lounge singer binge too, that i think it's about half and half tolerable and retarded.

they're both kinda.... i guess you'd call it... futuristic metal or rock.
fear factory is a strange one honestly too, most of the stuff the singer writes and sings about is kinda set in some fictional terminator type post apoc future, but there's others too where it's kinda obvious that he's expressing anger at the real, current world too, for instance, look up the songs "timelessness" and "corporate cloning" and you'll see the contrast i mean.
